Description

What you'll learn in this dance fitness class:

Feel your body lengthened, strengthened, aligned, and free to move! This Stretching & Alignment class incorporates elements of yoga, pilates, and ballet technique to expand your personal range of motion and prevent injury. Variations on exercises will be offered to help movers of all backgrounds and fitness levels safely challenge themselves.


Materials Needed to Fully Participate:

  • Comfortable clothing
  • Space to move
  • Optional: Yoga mat if working on a hard surface

About the Instructor:

Nadia Khayrallah is an NYC-based dancer, choreographer, and teacher with a B.A. in Dance and Psychology from Columbia University. She currently performs with Jonah Bokaer choreography, Gotham Dance Theater, Artists by Any Other Name. Nadia has presented her choreography through Dixon Place, Dancers Unlimited, Queens College Arts Festival, Chez Bushwick RECESS, YallaPunk, and ModArts Move to Change Festival. As a teacher, she focuses on giving students a well-rounded understanding of the technical foundation, cultural context, and expressive potential of each form of dance. 


Virtual Class FAQ


What will be included in my Virtual Class package?

One ticket includes an access link to your live, online class. The class will be delivered via web conferencing software and feature a live, professional instructor who will walk you through a lesson as described above. You will have the opportunity to ask questions as well as participate from home.

How many people is my purchase good for?

Each ticket is good for one "device" (i.e. one computer, phone, tablet, etc. you'll be logging in from). This ensures we don't get more people in the class than the instructor can handle. Though we understand some people live together and will be working/learning together, the intent is that each class still allows for the same attention to attendees as if students purchased separately. Please be respectful of this!

Will I need anything from home to use in the class?

You will need a reliable Internet connection as well as a computer or device with which you can access your virtual class. We recommend you arrive to class 5-10 minutes early to ensure you're able to set up your device and connection. Additionally, if the class is more than just a lecture you will likely want any materials listed in the course description as "Materials Needed to Participate Fully", though you're welcome to purchase a seat and sit in and just watch.

Am I able to ask questions or interact with the class?

Yes, you'll both be able to ask questions using the chat function in the video hosting software as well as at certain intervals during the class via voice/audio. If the class winds up being on the smaller side, more spontaneous interaction/questions will be encouraged.


Do I have to show my video or speak during class?

While we recommend you do show your video and speak when encouraged to by the instructor, video and audio participation are never mandatory. We find classes have more fun experiences when people are engaging with one another, but understand not everyone will want to do so and that's ok!

Remote Learning

This course is available for "remote" learning and will be available to anyone with access to an internet device with a microphone (this includes most models of computers, tablets). Classes will take place with a "Live" instructor at the date/times listed below.

Upon registration, the instructor will send along additional information about how to log-on and participate in the class.

Refund Policy

Students may cancel any time 48 hours or more before the class to receive a refund. Students canceling less than 48 hours before a class will receive a full credit towards rescheduling or purchasing a different class.

    Great Class!!! Looked forward to it each week it was on. I hope it continues into the fall. With the warm weather coming, it's getting harder to attend a class in the middle of the day on Sunday. I hope they move it to a different time and day, or continue it when the weather starts getting cooler again.

    I thought that the material taught was safe and was simple enough for everyone to follow. I did however, have difficulty hearing the teacher when she moved away from, I am assuming the microphone in order to demonstrate on the stool. Also, my situation is not well suited to Zoom movement classes in that my computer screen is on my desk and when doing floorwork I could not see the screen.

    Nadia had a class plan, and also asked students for any special concerns (i.e, back, flexibility challenges, balance, etc.). She was very considerate of possible student limitations and offered alternative positioning. At points when Nadia backed away from her computer, it was a little hard to hear her clearly -- perhaps a better microphone arrangement would help.
