One of DC’s most iconic memorials, the Kennedy Center is more than just a performing arts venue. Originally called the National Cultural Center (designed by Edward Durell Stone) Congress, renamed the building “John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts” as a living memorial to Kennedy.
Filled with architectural wonders, the building is absolutely beautiful, many illuminated with natural light or wrought Austrian crystal lights. Photograph the gorgeous opera house lined by red velvet and lit by Lobmeyr crystals, the sweeping halls, 16 hand-blown Orrefors crystal chandeliers, the Kennedy Memorial, and the beautiful exterior views from the roof and the building's exterior walkways.
Join Instructor Geoff Livingston for this unique class, where you will learn how to take beautiful architectural photos.
Geoff will work with attendees throughout the class covering the following topics;
- Architectural photography in dramatic light
- Exposing for bright natural light in dark “contrasty” buildings
- Composing subjects for leading lines within architecture
- Landscape photography
- Shallow depth of field and open aperture shooting for night photography
Recommended gear: Camera and lenses in the range of 18-105mm. If you have a wide-angle prime lens in this range, its wide aperture (usually f1.4 to f2.8, depending on the lens) will help capture stunning portraits with depth of field. Tripods are optional. No flash.
